Clint McAlister joined The University of Kansas Health System Sports Medicine and Performance Centerin July 2012. He is currently the head athletic trainer at Mill Valley High School where he has worked his entire career since August of 2001.
McAlister is an integral part of the school’s athletic program, working closely with coaches, players and parents to keep the athletes safe and healthy. He’s on site at practices, home contests and some road games during the school year, as well as camps and training during the summer.
“I feel like there is no other profession that could possibly be a more perfect fit for me,” said McAlister. “I get to work with amazing kids and coaches in a great school and community, doing what I love to do.”
He dedicates the majority of his time at the school to education as well as injury prevention, evaluation and treatment, but he also helps prepare for emergency situations. He designed and implemented an emergency action plan for all sports and locations on the high school campus. He is CPR/AED-certified and has an AED close to him at all times.
“We not only act as the first responders in emergency situations, but we are also a trusted resource for student athletes and their families,” said McAlister. “We have the unique opportunity to work with them from the moment an injury occurs until they can safely return to their sport.”
Growing up in Carrollton, Missouri, McAlister was a dedicated athlete and always knew he wanted to do something in the sports medicine world. He was an honor roll student and was involved in many clubs and organizations while participating in four different sports all 4 years of high school. He also won a state championship in wrestling and was a three-time state finalist.
McAlister received his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Missouri State University and a physical education degree from UMKC. He also has a master’s degree in education from Baker University. McAlister also taught physical education for nine years, mainly in the Blue Valley School District, while working as an athletic trainer at Mill Valley.
McAlister is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and holds a CSCS certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
He enjoys spending time with his wife, Kylee, and their two sons where exercise and sports consume most of their free time. McAlister is also the head coach and president for the Mill Valley Youth Wrestling Club and coached youth football in Mill Valley’s Junior Football and Cheer Association for 7 years.
